December 1st is World AIDS Day, an important anniversary to inform, especially young people, about the serious consequences this disease can cause.
To take full advantage of this CampusX awareness-raising opportunity – in collaboration with the Experience Foundation – on November 29th gave birth to the Stay Up Stay Safe campaign: during this day condoms will be distributed for free to inform and encourage young guests to use the right tools to prevent the risk of contracting AIDS, a disease that has affected men and women of all ages for many years.
In all CampusX offices, in Rome, Florence, Bari and Chieti, an information desk will be active from 12 to 18, available for discussion on the subject.
In Italy, from 2018 to May 31, 2019, 2,847 new diagnoses of infection with HIV were equal to 4.7 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants . Most new diagnoses of HIV infection are attributable to unprotected sexual intercourse, which constitutes 80.2%. (Data from the Ministry of Health)
It is important to know that the pill, the spiral and the diaphragm are useful methods to prevent unwanted pregnancies, but have no effect against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
The condom is an important ally against AIDS.
In conclusion, more than 80% of AIDS cases could be avoided if the risks that this disease can cause are known and the simplicity with which it is possible to protect oneself is really minimal.
