WhatsApp for close friends, Zoom for returnees and Microsoft Teams for study or work meetings: the last two months of forced quarantine have been marked by the revival of the apps dedicated to video calls. This trend has taken by storm not only the channels traditionally linked to this activity, such as Skype and Hangouts Meet, but also new applications that have grown on this wave. An example? Messanger Rooms and WhatsApp which, in recent times, has doubled the audience present in a single video call.

In the last fifty days, the world of communication has changed: online is the only environment that allows you to keep relationships alive and communication, whether working or not, has become essential to staying all connected. According to App Annie, the main analysis platform of the applications in circulation, the “business apps” dedicated to video communication underwent a 45% growth in the first weeks of quarantine, with particular attention to those that offered a greater number of participants.

Zoom , for example, which allows 100 users for a 40-minute conversation in its free version was downloaded fifty-five times more in Italy, compared to the previous quarter, only in the first week of quarantine. Followed by Hangouts Meet , which has become free for the period considered, and Microsoft who has appropriated his share of business audience with a free subscription of 6 months at Office 365 E1 and Teams.
The latter system, in particular, is the most requested on the work front because it allows the insertion of 5,000 people into a single team.

But not only business, not only work. In recent months the world of video calls has also completely changed on the social front. A few weeks ago we saw how Instagram had immediately adapted to the changes of the period, taking advantage of his directives to reduce the virtual space between people . Today we want to focus on other platforms that are making people talk about them.

The other two channels owned by Mark Zuckerberg, like the previous apps already considered, have recorded a surge in terms of group conversations and also of video calls: for this reason, they immediately adapted with the increase four to eight participants in WhatsApp video calls , including themselves, and with the creation of the Messanger Rooms on Facebook .

Fifty people and a single “room”: this is the main innovation of the channel which also competes with business platforms. The Messanger Rooms, in fact, have no time limits and the participants do not need to register on Facebook ; Moreover, just open one and share it on a WhatsApp bulletin board, group, event or chat to be able to invite anyone. Fourteen new Augmented Reality filters and effects are immediately available inside the room to create the illusion of ambient lighting, celebrate birthdays or even simulate a campsite.

This new entry on Facebook has made a name for itself in no time and, for this reason, there is already rumor a replica of it on WhatsApp and Instagram . The priority is always privacy, confirms the channel that ensures, in any situation, the absolute privacy of information within a room, as well as the ability to report meetings that violate the regulations of the page and / or to remove members from the chat. Increasingly closer, even if distant, and in compliance with all regulations, including online ones.
